Meet our creative Romy

Romy van der Ham has been working at MM as a creative for a year now, and she’s really enjoying it! As far as she’s concerned, the job title sums it up perfectly: “I work on all sorts of creative projects: from branding and social media to web design and print materials.” It’s precisely that variety that makes her work so enjoyable!
In this introductory interview, Romy talks about her creative development, the power of collaboration and… her international softball adventures.
Strategy, intuition and design come together
“I’m versatile, but I find branding and social media particularly interesting,” says Romy. “That’s because they bring together strategy, intuition and design. It’s really cool to help shape how a brand looks, how it comes across and how you use that to reach the right people.”
Designing, learning and growing together
“At MM, I can actually do everything that gets me excited. The work is varied and I’m given plenty of scope to discover new things and develop myself further. What’s more, I work with lots of other designers. That means there’s always someone with a fresh perspective, a good idea or a different way of looking at things.”
She particularly values the opportunity to bounce ideas off others and share feedback. “At first, it took some getting used to having so many designers around me, but now I actually find that one of the best things about it. We help each other improve, and it ensures you keep developing.”
She’s also drawn to the sense of community within the team. “We look out for one another, even outside of work. That’s why I quickly felt at home here. And the fact that MM is close to home is, of course, a lovely bonus!”
From business economics to the creative profession
Creativity has always played a part in Romy’s life, but becoming a designer wasn’t immediately at the top of her list. “At first I wanted to be a physiotherapist, but after six months I realised it wasn’t the right fit for me after all.”
She then began studying Business Economics in Tilburg, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in 2023. During her minor in Graphic Design, everything fell into place. “That’s when I realised how much I enjoyed the creative field. After my studies, I started working at an agency to gain experience. It was an educational experience, but also far from home. Eventually, my search led me to MM. I’m still very happy about that.”
Focusing on what is possible
What Romy has also noticed over the past year is that at MM, people always think in terms of possibilities. “Almost nothing is too crazy. We always look at how we can arrive at a suitable solution. That flexibility suits me well, because I also like to contribute ideas and prefer to focus on what is possible.”
“Every MM employee brings something unique to the table. It’s precisely that mix of personalities, ideas and talents that makes the team special.”
Enhancing creativity with new tools
The creative industry is constantly evolving, partly due to the rapid development of AI. Romy sees this primarily as an opportunity. “I find it fascinating to discover how new tools can enhance our creative work. Not to replace our own ideas, but to work smarter and achieve even better results for clients.”
She herself wants to develop further in the graphic design field over the coming years. “Branding and social media particularly appeal to me. That’s where my creativity and marketing background come together beautifully. It’s precisely that combination that gives me a lot of energy.”
A team player both on and off the field
Collaboration also plays an important role in Romy’s life outside the lab. In her spare time, she’s out on the softball field every week. “That’s where my team spirit really comes from: working together towards a goal, helping each other improve and, above all, having lots of fun.”
Through sport, she’s already played in several international tournaments. “Those are experiences I won’t forget in a hurry.” Romy is 26 and has been living with her boyfriend for the past six months. She also enjoys meeting up with friends and doing fun things.
We’re delighted that Romy brings her creative energy, team spirit and ideas to our lab every day!
